Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1961, Murphy began his career as a stand-up comedian in the late 1970s. He quickly rose to fame with his observational humor and impressions, and became a regular on the sketch comedy series "Saturday Night Live" in 1980.


During his time on "Saturday Night Live," Murphy established himself as a talented comedic actor and became one of the show's most popular cast members. He also began to branch out into film, starring in movies such as "48 Hrs," "Trading Places," and "Beverly Hills Cop," which established him as a leading box office star.

Murphy has won numerous awards throughout his career, including a Golden Globe for his role in "Dreamgirls" and a Kennedy Center Honor in 2019. He was also inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999.
