On Monday, four members of the Oath Keepers anti-government militia were convicted of seditious conspiracy in relation to the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol. The conviction comes after the recent conviction of the group's leader, Stewart Rhodes, for his involvement in the mob attack that delayed the certification of Joe Biden's 2020 presidential election victory over Donald Trump. Defense attorneys argued that the Oath Keepers were only in Washington to provide security at events before the riot and that there was no evidence of an explicit plan to storm the Capitol. The convictions mark a significant victory for the Department of Justice, which is currently pursuing sedition charges against former leader of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, and four associates. The trial is expected to last several weeks. The cases are some of the most significant brought so far in the ongoing investigation into the Capitol attack, which continues to expand two years after the riot. The Department of Justice has brought nearly 1,000 cases in connection to the attack and the number continues to rise
