At 10:22 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to a business in Monterey Park, California where they
found people fleeing the scene, screaming. According to Capt. Andrew Meyer, ten people were
pronounced dead at the scene and at least ten more were taken to local hospitals with varying injuries,
some of which are critical. The shooter has not been apprehended and the motive for the shooting is not
yet known. The incident occurred near a Lunar New Year festival that was taking place on Garvey
Avenue, but it is unclear if the shooting was connected to the event. The possibility of the shooting being
a hate crime is also being investigated.
