Scott Rolen is a retired professional baseball player who is considered one of the best third basemen of his generation. He was born on April 4, 1975 in Evansville, Indiana, and began playing baseball at a young age.

Rolen was a standout player at Jasper High School in Jasper, Indiana, where he was a four-year starter and two-time Indiana All-State selection. He was then selected in the second round of the 1993 Major League Baseball Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rolen made his MLB debut with the Phillies in 1996 and quickly established himself as one of the best young players in the league. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 1997 and was selected to the NL All-Star team in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

In 2002, Rolen was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals where he continued to excel. He won his first Gold Glove award in 2002, and then again in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Rolen was also named to the NL All-Star team in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

In 2006, Rolen led the Cardinals to the World Series, where they lost to the Detroit Tigers. Rolen was also named the National League Championship Series MVP for his outstanding performance throughout the playoffs.

Rolen's time in St. Louis was marked by various injuries, but he still managed to win his 7th Gold Glove award in 2010. In the same year, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds, where he played for three seasons and won an eighth Gold Glove award in 2013.

Throughout his career, Rolen was known for his exceptional defensive skills, winning eight Gold Glove awards, the most by a third baseman in National League history at the time of his retirement. He was also a seven-time National League All-Star and he won the National League Silver Slugger award in 2002.

Off the field, Rolen is known for his philanthropy and community involvement. He and his wife established the Scott Rolen MVP Field, a youth baseball and softball complex in Evansville, Indiana, as well as the Rolen's RBI program, which provides resources and opportunities for underprivileged children.

Overall, Scott Rolen was one of the best defensive third basemen of his generation. His combination of skill, talent, and work ethic made him one of the most successful and respected players of his time
