After his impressive college performance, Paul was selected by the New Orleans Hornets with the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. In his rookie season, he quickly established himself as one of the best point guards in the league, averaging 16.1 points, 7.8 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and was selected to the All-Star Game for the first time in his career.
