A shooting at a shopping center in El Paso, Texas has left one person dead and three others injured. Local authorities have confirmed that two suspects are in custody, and no other suspects are being sought. The incident took place on Wednesday at the Cielo Vista Mall, which is located near a Walmart supermarket where a racist attack in 2019 left 23 people dead, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings in US history.
El Paso Police Chief Peter Pacillas stated that off-duty officers, who were working with mall security, responded to the shooting within three minutes and arrested one suspect without the use of a weapon. The details of the second arrest are not known. All four victims were male, and two of the injured are in critical condition.
Last week, Patrick Crusius, the gunman in the 2019 attack, pleaded guilty to 90 federal counts, including hate crimes and firearms offenses. On Monday, three students were killed and five others injured in a separate shooting incident on the Michigan State University (MSU) campus.
The latest shooting at the Cielo Vista Mall has reignited concerns about gun violence in the US, with many calling for stricter gun control laws to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future
